You know what CWI (the dubbing company for SMS and SMSS) did? They turned Fish Eye into a girl. Yeah, I know, how disrespectful is that? I mean I can understand it and all, but still, ugh! Just because Fish Eye dresses like a girl and has tastes like a heterosexual girl does NOT mean he should be a girl.
First of all, making Fish Eye a girl dearly detracts from his feminism, which is one of the reasons I love him. Now all his girly actions are...... explainable. Dubbed Fishy is a girl, so of course she's going to act that way! If Dubbed Fishy acted like a guy, now that would be weird 0_0. But now darling Fish is just some girl who stands on a ball. Well, actually, I'll give CWI *some* ::glare glare:: credit for keeping the female Fish wacko.
I find it interesting that they say Fish Eye is a girl, yet they show the episode where Fish Eye rips off his shirt to show he's a guy! Now yes, I understand that not all of us have barbie-sized proportions (me being one of them), but how often do you see a person like that in anime? In this book I saw at the bookstore on "japanimation", the back cover read: "For those who think 'japanimation' is just big eyes, big boobs, and big guns." Would it now have to be modified to "For those who think japanimation is big eyes, big/nonexistent boobs, and big guns"?
Another thing, Fish Eye's voice scares me (although CWI isn't known for it's VAs -_-'). At first I was fuzzy on whether it was a girl or a really high-pitched guy (I was hoping for the guy). Maybe CWI just wanted to keep us guessing. Then I *think* they referred to Fish Eye as a girl, and the die was cast. Poor Fish.
So ends my very short rant (was it one?). I just wish that Fish Eye could've been shown to us in his full glory.
